2007-2008 Activity
Calendar
This calendar has been prepared for
one purpose, to help maximize the a successful year for all of our families and
students. We expect our students
to attend all of these events. We
expect our families to attend many of them. The events in red are federally
required. Also it is
federally required that we have contact with the host family and the exchange
student once a month. Every two month period of time, at least one of the two
contacts must be in person. Please help us fulfill this requirement. Keep this calendar and mark the dates.
The calendar is subject
to change due to unforeseen difficulties.
Saturday,
July 28th, 2007: The
Fort Wayne area Host Family Orientation will take place at 2:00 pm at Ron and
Julia CrosbyÕs home. Directions to
the CrosbyÕs will be mailed to you.
Snacks will be supplied. Attendance
at this meeting is required. If
you cannot attend, please contact your area representative, your AR. The meeting should last roughly one
hour.
August 25th, 2007: There will be a Post Arrival
Orientation at the CrosbyÕs. It
will begin promptly at 2:00.
Attendance by our exchange students is required
and attendance by host families is highly recommended. If you or your family cannot attend,
please contact your AR. The
meeting should last two hours.
Saturday, September 29th, 2007: We will have our annual trip to
Chicago. Exchange students and
their families are invited. We need you to be at the South Bend Station, which
is at the South Bend Airport, at 8:00am. (My wife and I will take a minivan and
take anyone we can who needs transportation. We will leave at 6:00am from our home.) The train will
arrive in Chicago at roughly 11:00.
Everyone will be free to walk though downtown Chicago. Students MUST travel in groups no
smaller than three. Everyone is to
be at the Randolph Station in Chicago no later than 7:30pm. The train will
return to South Bend Station at 10:40pm.
If you travel to Fort Wayne with one stop, you should arrive in Fort
Wayne around 1:00 am.
Everyone should take enough money to cover the $22 round trip ticket on
the South Shore Line plus money for meals plus money for any shopping or other
incidentals.
Saturday, October 20th,
2007: We will
have a fall party at Rusty and Christi PierÕs home from 6:30 pm until about
10:00. We will have hot dogs over
an open fire, chili, and smores.
Your AR. has directions. We
may go to the Haunted Castle. See
you there.
Saturday, Dec. 1st,
2007: We
are planning a day trip to Indianapolis.
We are planning on meeting in Indianapolis in the morning and spending
the day in Indianapolis. We are
planning on many activities while in the beautiful city. The details of this
trip are still being arranged.
December (The day is
yet to be determined), 2007: We
hope to schedule a Komet Hockey game between Christmas and New Years. We usually receive 25 complementary
tickets.
Saturday, Feb. 2nd, 2008: We will have the Northern Indiana area
midyear meeting/Taste Party.
Before eating, there will be a short meeting. After the meeting we will enjoy the Òtastes from around the
worldÓ. The dish should be
prepared by each exchange student and copies of the recipe should be with the
dishes. After the dinner the
students may stay the night for dancing and other activities. Details of the even will be announced.
Saturday, March 29th,
2008: We will
meet at the CrosbyÕs. We plan to
have an evening of pizza, Laser Tag, and socializing from 4:00 until
10:00. This event will also
include a pre-departure meeting from 4:00 until 5:00. The pre-departure meeting requires the attendance of the
students.
May 2nd,
To reward students who have completed the volunteer hours, we are planning an
Awards Banquet. The details are
still being planned.
Saturday, May 10th, 2008: Movie Night! We will meet at the CrosbyÕs and go to a Òyet to be
announcedÓ movie.

students is considered mandatory unless prior arranges are made with you
